Five Fabulous Tips for Female Riders
Tip #1: Care About Your Hair
You’ll want to style your hair in a way where you’ll be comfortable and safe while riding your motorcycle. Avoid wearing your hair loose and untied as it will move around under your helmet and can be distracting. Wind can also create a distraction by blowing your hair around and obstructing your view. Your best bet is to wear your hair in a low ponytail or loose braid.
Tip #2: Wear the Right Clothing and Gear
You can still be stylish while riding your motorcycle but ensure you’re wearing the right safety clothing and gear. Avoid wearing loose clothing or it will start flapping in the wind which is distracting and dangerous. Wearing the right gear is also important and should include items such as a full-faced helmet, gloves, and boots; these items will keep you safe if you’re ever involved in a collision.
Tip #3: Make Sure You Stay Visible
Staying visible is one of the most crucial safety tips. Motorcycles are smaller than cars, so assume most drivers can’t see you – this will ensure you’re riding with extra caution and will help you become better at defensive riding. Also, avoid riding in blind spots, don’t follow cars too closely, and be careful riding near transport trucks.
Tip #4: Find a Mechanic You Can Trust
There might be some maintenance you can do yourself, however, you may run into issues beyond your skill level. Find a mechanic you can trust to do the work so they don’t take advantage of you and charge more than they should. It’s important for female riders to have some basic maintenance knowledge as this will help you choose a reliable and trustworthy mechanic.
Tip #5: Always Have an Emergency Plan in Place
Life is unpredictable so important to be prepared for any scenario when out for ride on your motorcycle. Having an emergency plan in place can help keep you safe. Always tell someone when you’re going for a ride and where you’re headed. Checking the weather before you go is also important, so you don’t get caught in a storm. You’ll also want to make sure you have your cell phone loaded with emergency contacts and a phone charger just in case.
