Female Motorcycle Riders: Stereotypes vs. Reality

Posted Feb 24th, 2021 in Motorcycling Tips

There are many female motorcycle enthusiasts yet, when we think of hard-core riders, an image of a man likely comes to mind. It's time to put stereotypes aside because more and more women are taking the motorcycle industry by storm!

Female Motorcycle Riders: Stereotypes vs. Reality, StreetRider Insurance, Ontario

There are many female motorcycle riders out there and they are just as powerful and independent as the male riders! It's time to let go of the stereotypes.

Squashing Female Rider Stereotypes

In the media, female riders are often portrayed as passengers on the back of a man’s motorcycle or simply just not portrayed at all. We’d like to challenge this stereotype and shed some light on how amazing women who ride really are. There are actually many more women who own and ride a motorcycle than you might think!

We know that the women in our lives who love to ride are strong, independent, confident, smart, powerful, and fearless both on and off the road. Harley Davidson conducted a study in 2014 and found some telling results. Here are some quick statistics that help show how women actually benefit from motorcycle riding:

1.     53% of women riders actually note their motorcycle as a key source of happiness

2.     60% of women riders have better communication with their significant other compared to women who don’t ride

3.     74% of women riders feel their life has improved since beginning to ride

So, if you’re a woman reading this, we hope you look at how you feel when you're on your motorcycle, how it has changed your life, and that you keep staying true to yourself despite any negative stereotypes and assumptions. If you’re a man reading this, we hope you continue to recognize the female riders in your life, their strength and confidence, and continue to respect them and their love for riding just as you would with your male motorcycle friends!
