In order to really enjoy the holidays this year, ensure your business is safe before closing it. We’re providing you with helpful tips to protect your business.

7 Ways to Keep Your Business Safe During the Holidays

1 | Increased Lighting

Ensure your business is well-lit, both inside and outside. Having a well-lit building helps deter burglars from breaking in.

2 | Secure and Locked

Locking all the doors goes without saying, but with all the hustle and bustle during the holidays, sometimes the most obvious things can be overlooked. Double-check that you have securely closed and locked all doors, windows, and safes.

3 | Double Check Fire Protection Equipment

Fire and electrical incidents increase during the holidays. In order to keep your business safe, check the fire alarm, fire extinguishers, and sprinkler systems. It’s important to know these items are in good working order in the event of an emergency.

4 | Unplug Space Heaters and Other Electronics

During the winter months, many businesses utilize space heaters to help provide additional warmth. Ensure all heaters have been unplugged before you close for the holidays. It’s also important to unplug any electronics that won’t be used to decrease the chances of an electrical fire.

5 | Inform Others

It’s important to let your landlord and businesses around you when you will be closed for the holidays. This will ensure others can help keep an eye on your business while you’re away.

6 | Drain Your Pipes

In order to prevent pipes from freezing and bursting while you’re away, especially if you plan to close for an extended period during the holidays, turn off and drain all unnecessary pipes. You may even want to wrap your pipes with insulated sleeves to prevent freezing.

7 | Use a Security System

If you have already invested in a security system, ensure to arm it before you leave. Burglars are often deterred from breaking in when they know a business has an alarm. As an extra precaution, make sure it’s in good working order by testing it.

It’s important to enjoy the holidays and ensuring your business is protected while you’re away will help you to unwind during the break.
