Although the end of riding season is nearing for many riders, there are some ways you can extend it in a safe and comfortable manner. Read our tips below to see what we will be doing this season to get in as much riding as we can!

3 Ways to Extend Your Motorcycle Riding Season

#1 Be Aware

With each new season comes new hazards and conditions to be aware of. It's important that you take into consideration the potential dangers of riding during the fall and winter months. Some hazards may include black ice, wet or dry leaves, and more animals on the roads. Another important thing to be aware of to ensure your safety is your tires. Rubber hardens in the cold, causing less traction on your tires. Riding will help to warm your tires up but once you stop, they will begin to harden.  Be sure to check your tire pressure more often since tires lose pressure faster in the cold!

#2 Be Prepared

To be safe throughout the colder months you should leave extra time to ride your routes since the potential hazards mentioned above might increase your riding time. As it is getting darker quicker you may also want to reduce your riding times, so you can avoid riding when it's dark. Dressing appropriately for the climate and weather is one of the most important ways to prepare for fall and winter riding. Becoming cold on your bike is never good because it can cause extra fatigue. Staying warm is easy when you wear good base layers, heated clothing, neck warmers, and water-proof gloves and boots. With these clothing items, your comfort and safety will be prioritized.

#3 Stay Healthy

Always bring water with you in an easily accessible container. Dehydration can happen very quickly and without much warning. It is also important to be aware of the signs of hypothermia. Shivering, clumsiness, brain fog, memory loss, and lack of coordination are just some of the main ones to note. If you are experiencing any of these it is best to be on the safe side; end your ride or make a stop to warm up before heading home.

There are many factors to consider before riding during the fall and winter months. With out tips, you can safely extend your riding season and enjoy many more safe rides on your motorcycle.
