Covid-19 is quickly spreading across the world and in our home of Ontario. We’ve broken down what we know about social distancing recommendations and how to stay as safe as possible.

Find out how you can do your part in staying safe, and keeping others safe, while navigating the Covid-19 virus that's taking over the headlines.

What is Social Distancing?

Social distancing, also known as physical distancing, is a term and practice created by health experts in response to Covid-19. It's like respecting people's personal space bubbles, taken to a whole new level! Social distancing limits face-to-face contact and therefore can reduce the spread of this disease.

Social distancing includes:

  • Keeping at least six feet (two arm lengths) from other people who are not in your household
  • Wearing a mask to protect yourself and others
  • Avoiding crowds or group gatherings
  • Choosing safe social activities or opting-in for virtual gatherings
  • Limiting contact, using curbside pick-up or delivery, and giving people adequate space between you and them when in public places like the grocery store

But, why?

From what we know, Covid-19 spreads mainly through close contact when droplets from mouths or noses are launched into the air and land on or are inhaled by the people nearby. So, social distancing helps limit that opportunity of spread, meaning the farther away you are, the safer you are. Masks are used as another tool to help you socially distance safely, as they can limit your exposure to other people's droplets and also limit the spread of your own droplets flying into the air.

We know it seems weird, and things are changing ever so quickly. For your safety and the safety of the people you love, take social distancing seriously, it's really not that hard.
