Spring is here and we cannot wait to get outside to begin enjoying the weather. To get things organized we’ve provided some helpful and quick home maintenance tips.
Keeping up with home maintenance will help you avoid potential insurance claims. Especially considering the weather we experience in Ontario, it’s vital to stay on top of everything seasonally.
To help you get your home ready for summer, we’ve outlined three spring home maintenance tips you need to know about.
- Eavestrough & downspouts – Monitor and check your eavestroughs to make sure they aren’t leaking or loose. Also, in an effort to protect your basement from flooding ensure your downspout extends 1.5
metres away from your home - this will help minimize your chances of disaster. - Roof – Have a contractor check your roof to see if you lost any shingles, or if any are loose or curling. If there are issues, have them fixed as you do not want to experience any leaks from a significant rainfall.
- Landscaping – It’s very common to have fallen trees and branches on your property, if any of these trees are unhealthy, cutting them down may be something to think about, especially if these trees are on or close to a
neighbour’s property. Furthermore, according to HGTV, they recommend using compacted soil as, “Spring rains can cause yard flooding, which can lead to foundation flooding and damage.”
We recommend doing routine maintenance checks seasonally, as it can reduce home insurance claims and keep your home in great shape as the seasons go by.
