Spring is here! It seems hard to find tulips and daffodils, but it hasn’t been hard finding potholes! Hopefully, you’ll be able to avoid all of the potholes – but just in case you land in one, here’s how you can tell if there’s damage to your vehicle.
You may have sustained damage to your vehicle after hitting a pothole if you’ve noticed any of the following;
#1 Change in Alignment
If you notice that your steering is either pulling to the left or right after hitting a pothole, chance are that you have done some damage to your alignment.
#2 Compromised Suspension
You will know if hitting a pothole has compromised your suspension if it feels as though your car is swaying left when turning corners or is bouncing. This type of damage affects your vehicle’s shocks, steering rack, bearing, struts, ball joints, and seals.
#3 Tire & Rim Damage
If you hit a pothole, you should visually inspect your vehicle. Ensure there are no cuts or bulges along the rubber of your tires. You should also make sure there aren’t bends and cracks in the rims. This damage isn’t just superficial – it could cause a blowout when you are traveling at higher speeds.
Sometimes it’s difficult to avoid potholes because it seems that they appear out of nowhere. If you can’t avoid hitting one, make sure you visually inspect your vehicle after. If it looks like there’s damage or you noticed your vehicle isn’t driving the way it normally does, have a professional automotive servicer to do an inspection.
